Master Checkers – Free Online 2 Player Game

Master Checkers is an Italian-rules checkers game for the browser, playable against the computer, against someone on the same device, or against opponents online. Pieces only ever sit on the dark squares, so every move is diagonal, and a single piece may only move towards the opponent until it is crowned. Jumps are compulsory, and one move can chain several of them.

Which device? We do not hold a control list for Master Checkers yet, so we cannot tell you what it expects. Open it and see — and if it does not respond to taps, try it on a computer. The full-screen link above gives it the whole screen either way.

1. Moves are only allowed on dark squares, so pieces always move diagonally. Single pieces are always restricted to moving forward (towards the opponent).
2. Capture pieces by jumping.
3. A piece that makes a capture (jump) jumps over one of the opponent's pieces and lands in a straight diagonal line on the other side. Only one piece can be captured in one jump; however, multiple jumps are allowed in one move.
4. Jumps (or captures) are mandatory.
5. If a player can make a capture, the jump must be made.
6. When a piece reaches the furthest row from the player who controls it, it becomes a king and can move either forward or backward.

Controls — general guide

• Mouse or touch: click, or tap if the game accepts it. Some games here are built for a touch screen and some want a keyboard — the note above says which this one is.
• Keyboard (if the game uses it): arrow keys or WASD to move, and the space bar to jump or act.
• Full screen: use the “Play full screen” button above for a bigger view.

• Read the steps above before your first run — Master Checkers documents 6 of them, and most early losses are just not knowing the rule.
• Use Play full screen if anything feels cramped — it hands the game the whole window, which matters most on a laptop.
• Nothing saves to SlowDen. Closing the tab ends the run, so finish a level before you leave.
