"Cookies" is used here as shorthand for the several small technologies a website can use to keep information in your browser: cookies proper, local storage, session storage and similar mechanisms. They differ technically and behave alike for the purposes of this document.
The essential point about SlowDen is that these technologies arrive from three very different places, and your ability to control them differs sharply between the three. Almost every complaint about cookies on a game site comes from not distinguishing them, so this document is organised around the distinction.
| Source | What it is for | Who controls it |
|---|---|---|
| SlowDen's own pages | Remembering a small preference, such as a panel you left open or a search term in the box | SlowDen |
| Analytics | Distinguishing one visit from another so that aggregate usage can be counted | The analytics provider, configured by SlowDen |
| Game frames | Whatever the game's own host uses, including advertising | The other company. Not SlowDen. |
SlowDen's own use is the smallest of the three by a wide margin. The site has no login, so there is no session cookie; no basket, so there is nothing to persist; and no advertising code of its own anywhere, so there is no advertising identifier set by SlowDen.
SlowDen's pages may keep a small amount of information in your browser to make the site behave sensibly: remembering which information panel you last opened, retaining the contents of the search box so that a search can be returned to, and similar conveniences.
This information stays in your browser. It is not transmitted to us, is not readable by other websites, and does not identify you. Clearing it costs you nothing but the preference itself, and every part of the site continues to work without it.
SlowDen uses Google Analytics 4 to count visits and understand in aggregate which pages and which games people reach. To do that, the analytics product sets identifiers of its own so that a sequence of page views can be recognised as one visit rather than several.
We use the result to decide what to build and what to fix. We do not use it to identify a person, and the way the site is configured gives us no means of doing so. The four game-interaction events described in the Privacy Policy travel through this same channel and carry only public catalogue fields and whole seconds.
Blocking analytics is entirely reasonable and breaks nothing on this website. Every measurement wrapper on the site is written so that a blocked or absent analytics script cannot stop a game from loading — that is a deliberate engineering decision, not an accident.
This is where the great majority of cookies encountered on SlowDen actually come from, and it is the part SlowDen cannot control.
When you open a partner game, the game runs inside a frame served by Playgama. Playgama shows its own advertising inside that player, and advertising of that kind customarily relies on cookies or similar identifiers. Those are set by Playgama and the advertising networks it works with, under their arrangements, not ours. SlowDen does not choose them, does not receive them, and cannot turn them off on your behalf.
When you open a developer-submitted game, whatever that developer's site uses applies on their domain.
If you wish to avoid third-party storage of this kind, the effective step is to configure your browser to block third-party cookies, or to decline to open the game. Declining has no effect on the rest of SlowDen.
Every major browser lets you see what has been stored, delete it, and refuse more of it. The relevant settings live under Privacy, Cookies or Site data depending on the browser, and they generally allow you to block third-party cookies while leaving first-party storage intact — which is the setting that matches what most people actually want here.
You may also use private browsing, which discards storage when the window closes, or a content blocker, which SlowDen makes no attempt to detect, circumvent or complain about.
Nothing on SlowDen is withheld from someone who blocks cookies. There is no wall, no nag and no degraded mode. The catalogue browses, searches and plays exactly the same.
Where the law that applies to you requires consent before non-essential technologies are used, they operate on that basis and you may withdraw consent at any time by clearing site data in your browser and declining further storage.
Storage strictly necessary to deliver a page you asked for does not require consent under most such laws, and SlowDen's own first-party storage falls squarely within that description.
If SlowDen's own use of these technologies changes materially, this page changes with it and the date at the top is updated. Questions go to slowden.official@gmail.com.
