Search behaviour and reality do not match here, and pretending otherwise would be dishonest. People type minecraft games, block games and minecraft unblocked when what they actually want is the feeling of Minecraft in a tab they can open right now — blocks, mining, building, ragdoll physics, jumping courses.

Naming the category after the search term is normal on game portals. Quietly letting a visitor believe the real game is behind the link is not. If you came looking for Minecraft specifically, this is the sub-genre that will feel most familiar — and also the one where the difference is most obvious. These are small browser games. They are not a replacement for a full survival sandbox, and it would be silly to sell them as one.

The largest group by some distance. “Obby” is short for obstacle course, a word Roblox players coined, and it has since become its own browser genre with no Roblox involvement at all.
